Although I just had my 40th birthday a couple of months ago, I realize that I am really much older. I used to think of myself as an individual person. Now I realize that I am just a small part of the overall manifestation of the universe. The Big Bang occurred at least 13.5 billion years ago (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_the_universe) and there may have been occurrences before the Big Bang. All of the evolution that the universe has undergone since that momentous occasion has been necessary for me to exist as I do now. Those 13.5+ billion years have all been leading up to the exact moment that I am experiencing right now. I would like to think that a moment that was 13.5+ billion years in the making would be quite profound. Strangely, though, this moment feels rather ordinary.
